Putting Gun Control First

One of the ugly truths about many gun-control advocates is that they're more concerned about pushing for gun control than they are about reducing violence.

Take Thom Mannard, for example. The executive director of the Illinois Council to Prevent Handgun Violence was left pouting after a recent summit on youth violence in Chicago didn't specifically include discussion about additional gun-control laws. Of course, the summit was prompted by the brutal beating death of student Derrion Albert, but Mannard didn't seem to care about that. Instead, he accused Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Attorney General Eric Holder of using Albert's death as "cover" for avoiding a discussion of gun control. Talk about an appalling lack of perspective.

The only effective way to reduce violent crime is to fully prosecute lawbreakers, not push for the 20,001st piece of gun control. The American public knows it, most politicians know it, but the gun banners are content to remain oblivious to the obvious.
